2. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Fuels supply systems:
  • Carburetors
  • Diesel Fuel Injection Systems
  • Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems.

3. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Clutches.
  • Coil-Spring Clutch
  • Diaphragm – Spring Clutch.
  • Double Disk Clutch.

4. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Transmission systems.
  • Synchromesh – Four speed Range.
  • Transaxle with Dual Speed Range.
  • Four Wheel Drive and Transfer Case.
  • Steering Column and Floor – Shift levers.

5. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Drive Lines & Differentials.
  • Rear Wheel Drive Line.
  • Front Wheel Drive Line.
  • Differentials, Drive Axles and Four Wheel Drive Line.

6. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Suspension Systems.
  • Front Suspension System.
  • Rear Suspension System.

7. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Steering Systems.
  • Manual Steering Systems, e.g. Pitman –arm steering, Rack & Pinion steering.
  • Power steering Systems, e.g. Rack and Pinion Power Steering System.
  • Steering Wheels and Columns e.g. Tilt & Telescopic steering Wheels, Collapsible Steering Columns.

8. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the following Automotive Tyres & wheels.
  • Various Types of Bias & Radial Tyres.
  • Various Types of wheels.

9. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of the Automotive Brake systems.
  • Hydraulic & Pneumatic Brake systems.
  • Drum Brake System.
  • Disk Brake System.
  • Antilock Brake System.
  • System Packing & Other Brakes.

10. To study and prepare report on the constructional details, working principles and operation of Automotive Emission / Pollution control systems.
11. Modeling of any two automotive systems on 3D CAD using educational softwares (eg. 3D modeling package/Pro Engineering/I-Deas/ Solid edge etc.)
12. Crash worthiness of the designed frame using Hypermesh and LS-Dyna solver or other software.

1 Cylinder 2 Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig  (MLABS-AUTOM-001)

The setup consists of single cylinder, two stroke, petrol engine connected to rope brake / Electric type dynamometer for variable loading. The setup has stand-alone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, and manometer, fuel measuring unit.

Experiments

  • Study of engine performance for power, efficiencies, fuel consumption, air fuel ratio

Utilities Required

  • Electric supply: Provide 230 +/- 10 VAC, 50 Hz, single phase electric supply with proper earthing. (Neutral – Earth voltage less than 5 VAC)
  • Space: 3300Lx2900Wx1700H in mm
  • Fuel, oil: Petrol: Oil mixed petrol (2T oil, 30 – 50 ml/lit) @ 10 liter. Lubricating oil: @ 0.5 liter (20W40)

The setup consists of single cylinder, four stroke, petrol engine connected to rope brake type dynamometer for variable loading. The setup has stand-alone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit.

3 Cylinder 4 Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig  (MLABS-AUTOM-003)

The setup consists of three cylinder, four stroke, petrol engine connected to dynamometer for engine loading. The setup has stand-alone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit. Engine jacket cooling water inlet, outlet and calorimeter temperature is displayed on temperature indicator. Flowmeters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter flow measurement. Provision is also made for conducting Morse test.

  • Morse test

  • Water supply: Continuous clean and soft water @4000 LPH, Head 10 m.(min), Connection 1” BSP with tap/valve.
  • Drain: Provide drainpipe 2 NB size.
  • Exhaust: Provide exhaust pipe 1 NB size.
  • Fuel, oil: Petrol: @ 10 liter, Lub. oil: @ 3.5 liter (20W40)

Engine jacket cooling water inlet, outlet and calorimeter temperature is displayed on temperature indicator. Flowmeters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter flow measurement. Provision is also made for conducting Morse test

The setup consists of single cylinder, four stroke, Diesel engine connected to dynamometer for variable loading. The setup has standalone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit. Engine jacket cooling water inlet, outlet and exhaust gas temperature is displayed on temperature indicator. Flowmeter is provided for cooling water flow measurement.

  • Drain: Provide drainpipe 1.5” BSP size with suitable length.
  • Fuel, oil: Diesel: @ 10 liter. Lubricating oil: @ 5 liter (20W40)






2 Cylinder 4 Stroke Diesel Engine Test Rig  (MLABS-AUTOM-006)

The setup consists of double cylinder, four stroke, Diesel engine connected to rope brake type dynamometer for variable loading. The setup has standalone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit. Engine jacket cooling water inlet, outlet and exhaust gas temperature is displayed on temperature indicator. Flowmeter is provided for cooling water flow measurement.

  • Drain Provide suitable drain arrangement (Drain pipe 65 NB/2.5” size)
  • Exhaust Provide suitable exhaust arrangement (Exhaust pipe 32 NB/1.25” size)
  • Fuel, oil Diesel @10 liter, Oil @ 3.5 lit. (15W40)
